Removing Old Oil Stains from Concrete

Jim Miller, Founder, C2 Products, Inc.

Oil stains seem to be one of the toughest things to get out of concrete. There are several products that claim they can do the job. The method I use will remove stains that have been in concrete for years.

Tools required:

  • rubber gloves
  • margin trowel
  • 5 gallon bucket
  • square nose shovel.

Materials:

  • sawdust or shredded newspaper
  • cement powder(not to be confused with mortar mix)

Step 1- mix a small amount of cement with the sawdust or paper shreddings (dry at first).

Step 2- add small amounts of water until the mix reminds you of the old mud pie making days.
If the mix is too soupy at first, add small amounts of cement til you get the right consistency.

Step3-Trowel poultice over the stains and let sit 24 hours.

Step 4- remove mud pie patches the following day with the shovel(If on a driveway with a deeper broom finish, it may necessary to also use a wire brush).

Step 5- Repeat steps 1 thru 4 until the stains are gone.
